The Balmoral Burn has smashed its own target of $2 million raising over $2.2 million in the annual mad dash up Awaba Street in Mosman.
Over 93 corporate teams, 55 school relay teams and thousands of individuals braved the notoriously steep Awaba Street for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation’s annual fun run.
Humpty Dumpty Foundation chairman Paul Francis said, “We’re thrilled! Every year The Balmoral Burn just gets bigger and better. This year more corporate teams entered than ever before, which is just a great testament to this wonderful event.“
Beijing Olympian Lachlan Renshaw, using the Burn as a warm up for his Games preparation, was the first man to cross the line. Close behind him were hundreds of runners charging up one of Sydney’s steepest streets, all with one common goal – to help sick kids in NSW.
Paul Francis added, “We set ourselves the almighty challenge of raising $2 million for children’s hospitals across Sydney and NSW. This was always going to be a tough goal to meet so to raise an additional $200,000 has exceeded all of our expectations.
We extend a warm, hearty thank you to all of the businesses, families and individuals who braved the Burn this year.”
Phil Kearns, the brains behind The Balmoral Burn added, “We started the Burn several years ago thinking we would make a few thousand to help Royal North Shore Hospital.
To now raise well over $2 million just a few years down the track is phenomenal. This means we will be able to purchase even more life saving medical equipment for children’s hospitals thanks to the generosity of thousands of Sydneysiders.
Next year we hope to build on this year’s extraordinary success by taking the proceeds of the Burn and helping even more children in hospital“ he said.
