While Christian Moreau et fils is a relatively new estate, this family has been in Chablis for nearly 200 years. When Christian sold the old family domaine of J.Moreau et fils in the 1970’s, he sold only the brand, not the magnificent array of some of Chablis’ very best vineyards. When the arrangement to sell the fruit from those vineyards expired at the end of 2001, he promptly set up his own domaine together with his son, Fabien who is a trained oenologist.
Owning nearly 10% of the total land designated Grand cru in Chablis, this small domaine owns a wealth of magnificent old established vineyards. The total size of the domaine is just 12 hectares, which is small by Chablis standards.
The small size of this domaine enables them to lavish great care and attention to all the vineyards and as such they are one of the very few producers in Chablis to pick all fruit by hand, and then sort the fruit by hand again in the winery before crushing. This meticulous attention to detail results in wines of stunning purity.
Delicate and slightly yeasty on the nose. Fine, light, pure and fresh. Delicate but good length.
"Good pale colour. Steely aromas of lemon drop and pineapple, accented by a light spicy character. Juicy and brisk but supple, with a touch of sweetness to the grapefruit and pineapple flavours. Little sign of oak on the palate. Finishes fresh and pure, with a youthfully metallic quality.” 88-90 Steve Tanzer July/August 2007
